Ahsoka (2023) Movie Reviews to Watch on Oktaflix

On August 22 2023, we will have a new series on the Disney+ streaming service which is part of the Star Wars franchise, namely Ahsoka. This series is a spin-off from The Mandalorian as well as a continuation of Ahsoka Tano’s adventures in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. In the first week of broadcast, this series immediately released two episodes, out of a total of eight episodes in its first season.

The synopsis for the Ahsoka series tells the story of Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) who investigates new threats in the galaxy after the fall of the Empire. Tano also finds clues regarding Grand Admiral Thrawn which could also provide an opportunity for the whereabouts of his long-lost colleague, Ezra Bridger. Tano was not alone on this mission, because he was accompanied by his Padawan, namely Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo).

Ahsoka (2023) Movie Reviews to Watch on Oktaflix

The first two episodes of the series focus more on Ahsoka Tano trying to repair her relationship with Sabine Wren while investigating threats in the galaxy. However, from the focus of the story, the first two episodes of the series were successful in developing the main conflict solidly for the remaining six episodes to come.

Apart from that, the first two were also considered successful in exploring a number of ‘old’ Star Wars elements that had not been seen for almost a long time. Therefore, it could be said that this series has been quite successful in evoking feelings of nostalgia among Star Wars fans.

This series can also be said to provide the same enthusiastic experience as when you first watched the first season of The Mandalorian. Well, hopefully the conflict storytelling for the remaining six episodes remains consistent, and doesn’t feature unimportant stories, aka filler, like what happened in The Mandalorian Season 3.

A series with a solid story that makes you nostalgic

Rosario Dawson returns as Ahsoka Tano in this solo series. Star Wars fans certainly agree that Dawson is the perfect actress to play Tano. The thing is, Dawson managed to exude a charismatic and badass aura from Tano so that his appearance in this series also feels as good as the character’s depiction in the animated version.

However, in my opinion, the performance that stole the attention the most in the first two episodes of the series was Natasha Liu Bordizzo who played Sabine Wren. Like Rosario Dawson, Bordizzo also feels like the right actress to play Sabine. However, due to his character’s more enjoyable nuance, Bordizzo’s performance stands out from Dawson’s.

Oh yes, Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s performance as Hera Syndulla is no less interesting, especially because of her chemistry with Dawson. Meanwhile, the antagonists in this series are still not very prominent in the first two episodes. However, their development in the next episodes is worth looking forward to.

Series with ‘expensive’ visuals

Even though it has a series format that is broadcast via a streaming service, Ahsoka is said to have visuals that feel luxurious like Star Wars films which have higher production costs. This actually applies to the Star Wars franchise series, such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

However, it must be admitted that the visual quality of The Mandalorian Season 3, which was released in early 2023, has decreased quite a bit. Therefore, the quality of the cinematography in this series feels expensive because it is better than its predecessor which was also released this year. Hopefully, this excellent visual quality will last until the final episode.

Unfortunately, Ahsoka still doesn’t have the theme song that made the series iconic. This is the only weakness of the series compared to its predecessors, especially The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

Conclusion

In general, the first two episodes of the Ahsoka series have been quite successful in promising an exciting viewing experience with a solid story for the following episodes.

So, what do you think about this review of the latest Star Wars series? For those who have never watched this movie, now Ahsoka (2023) can be watched for free on Oktaflix.
